HCV

The Housing Choice Voucher program is the Federal Government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, the disabled, and the handicapped to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Through the HCV program, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses, apartments, and mobile homes.

Under the HCV program, participants are free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects/communities. To be eligible for the HCV program, the family must meet all the eligibility requirements.

The Washington Housing Authority is currently providing assistance to 370 families through the HCV program.

Being proactive is a great start!

If you have applied for Section 8 and have received a Housing Choice Voucher Application or letter in the mail saying that your name is at the top of the waiting list, it is best that you begin to start thinking about where you would like to live.

Start looking early and try to be consistent when searching for where you would like to call home. Although nothing will be concrete until you submit your verifications and an approved background check is completed, it would be in your best interest to start the search.

Power up for a new beginning!
